The privacy and integrity of online payment transactions is assured with the following security measures:
Data Protection
Access to data is protected by means of a user ID and password.
Encryption
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol is used by Absa Online Payments to ensure that all card details are subject to 128-bit encryption during transmission from the customer to Absa's server. This makes it extremely difficult to access card information. Information transmitted between the EPS Team Store website and the customer is encrypted using a minimum of 40-bit SSL. The customer's card details are never submitted to EPS – only to Absa – allowing customers to feel confident about shopping online.
There is a secure API message handler.
Firewall
The "payment engine" of Absa Online Payments is securely situated behind a "firewall" in a specified "Trusted Environment" and is thus protected from unwanted and unlawful network and/or system entry and is monitored continually.
Other Security Features
Card validation checks are carried out on the following:
Card expiry date
Card brands by merchant
Card number in length
CVV2 digit verification (Absa credit cards only)
Address verification (Absa cards only)
Secure Internet Shopping
When the customer submits a purchase order request via the EPS Team Store website, the Absa Online Payment software interacts with the EPS webserver to register the transaction and forward it to EPS's acquiring bank’s system through an Internet Payment Gateway (IPG).
